MALA BLOCK PANCHAYATH

The Block Panchayat constitutes the second tier (intermediate level) of Kerala's three-tier Panchayat Raj system. It serves as a vital link between the Grama Panchayats and the District Panchayat. Typically, a Block Panchayat encompasses five or more Grama Panchayats. Its governing body consists of representatives (Block division members) directly elected by the voters within the block's jurisdiction. The President, elected from this committee, is the head of the Block Panchayat. The Block Development Officer (BDO), appointed by the government to oversee administrative functions, serves as its principal official head.
